West Palm Beach police confiscated every firearm owned by investigative journalist James O’Keefe following a restraining order filed by former Project Veritas board member Matthew Tyrmand. The seizure represents an escalation in a dispute that began when O’Keefe was removed from the organization he founded.
Restraining Order Triggers Gun Confiscation
O’Keefe announced the confiscation Thursday evening, stating police arrived at his O’Keefe Media Group office and removed all firearms. The action followed a Miami-Dade family court domestic violence restraining order obtained by Tyrmand. O’Keefe documented the seizure on video and posted about the incident on social media. The restraining order was served while O’Keefe was livestreaming from his West Palm Beach headquarters earlier this month.
Background of the Dispute
The conflict stems from February 2023, when the Project Veritas board removed O’Keefe as chairman despite his building the organization into a multi-million-dollar operation. Tyrmand served on that board during the removal. O’Keefe claims Tyrmand admitted on hidden camera to wanting him dead, stating he would kill O’Keefe and calling him one of the most evil people he has known. Tyrmand allegedly shot bullets through O’Keefe’s heart on his book cover.
New Media Venture Amid Legal Battles
After his removal from Project Veritas, O’Keefe launched O’Keefe Media Group, which has grown into a successful media operation. He continues fighting to regain control of Project Veritas while building his new venture. In February, O’Keefe recorded Tyrmand at a Miami Beach restaurant, where Tyrmand allegedly admitted to being an FBI informant for the Southern District of New York. The recording also captured threats against O’Keefe’s life, according to O’Keefe’s account of the encounter.
